Southland is a touring park and we welcome visitors with their own caravan, motorhome or tent. All our pitches are generous and level. All pitches have their own electric hook-up – some 10 amp and some 16 amp and approx half our pitches have their own water supply. Parking is available alongside each pitch. We have no holiday homes for hire on the Park.
The Park itself is flat although our meadow/conservation area is sloping. The Park is mainly grass with gravel roads.
We take the safety of our customers very seriously and therefore there is a 5 mph speed limit throughout the Park with clearly marked speed bumps in several locations. However, the speed bumps allow access on either side to allow safe passage for wheelchairs and other mobility vehicles.
There is disability parking in front of Reception and by the toilet/shower, laundry and dishwashing facilities for those who need it.
At night the main car park and the area around the customer facilities is well lit and low level general lighting is provided around the rest of the Park.
The Reception area doorway has small ramps but there is a clearly marked bell by the door for those who need assistance.
We have a key access shower/toilet facility for those guests with disabilities. This facility has an audible and visual alarm in case of difficulties. There is a small ramp up to this unit. In addition we have two family shower/toilet units that have level access. One of these units has been fitted with bars, etc to assist guests with disabilities.
The Park has a small shop which provides basic goods and camping and calor gas. Safeway/Morrison is 5 minutes away by car.
Assistance dogs are welcome on the Park and we have two dog walks.
There is no 24 hour service available on the Park. Reception is open from 9.00 am until 6.00 pm, however staff are resident on the Park should there be an emergency.
The Park has reasonable coverage on both Orange and Vodaphone networks. Television reception on the Park is very good.
Wheelchairs are available for hire from Island Mobility (Telephone: 01983 530000) or on loan from the British Red Cross (01983 522718). The British Red Cross rely on donations and both organisations suggest booking early as they do get very busy during the peak summer months.
Bus services from outside the park go to Sandown and Shanklin 3 times a day and Newport 4 times a day Monday to Saturday. There is also an hourly service to both Newport and Sandown (2 hourly on Sundays) approx eight minutes walk away. Full details of the local bus services are available from Reception.
The local taxi firm A Cabs (telephone 01983 866772) has a euro-taxi, which is adapted for those who need assistance.
We aim to provide a comprehensive service to our guests and we would therefore find it helpful if specific requirements were mentioned at the time of booking, eg if you need to be near the facilities, we can then check to see whether we can accommodate your request.
If you feel you need help at any time during your visit, please mention this to any of our staff who will be delighted to offer assistance.
Upon arrival guests will be shown to their pitch by a member of staff, the facilities will be pointed out and each guest will be given a copy of our Welcome Leaflet which contains a wealth of information. Copies of our Welcome Leaflet are available in large print and on cassette.
